A corner for those touched indirectly by breast cancer

It's often easy to forget that breast cancer doesn't just affect the person who has been diagnosed with the disease but also those who love and care for that person.  Admittedly these friends and relatives don't have to undergo treatment and aren't fighting a life-threatening illness but they are affected in many ways and often don't get enough support themselves.

The idea of this page is to allow those people to tell their story, discuss their worries and fears and to share help and tips that may make the journey just that little bit easier or more bearable.

If you have anything that you would like to say from the point of view of a relative, friend, carer or someone who's been touched by breast cancer without being diagnosed themselves then please contact us at Breast Cancer Corner and we will share your message.

hereditary I was diagnosed with breast cancer 10 years ago…and I thank God and my family that I am healed from it. What scares me now is that my daughter might acquire the same sickness. I’ve heard that most breast cancer is acquired through inheritance.

RE:hereditary No. I am just scared that she might have it since there is possibility that it runs in the family blood.

RE:hereditary Have medical check-up immediately on instances of suspicion of a lump is the best prevention of a severe breast cancer.

RE:hereditary My mother was also diagnosed with breast cancer and I am not discounting the fact that I might get it in the future. That’s why I have regular check-ups with my doctor.

RE:hereditary I really cannot understand why there is still no concrete medicine for this, or a vaccine perhaps. I have friends whose mothers, sisters and aunts who died because of breast cancer.

Male breast cancer

Most of us associate breast cancer with women, however there are about 300 men diagnosed with breast cancer in the UK every year.  Male breast cancer is a rare form of cancer accounting for about 1% of all breast cancers cases.
